Welcome to Home Care for Maine’s Hot Button, where you receive up to date information and news.

Remember the newsletter contest. By now everyone should have received their paychecks with the November newsletter. In the November and December newsletters you will see certain words highlighted in yellow. You need to write down these words (from both newsletters) and put them in order to reveal a holiday phrase or song verse. Once you have they saying send it with your name to the office. We will have a random drawing of all the winning entries and the winners will receive prizes including Hannaford gift certificates!!!

This weeks wellness drawing winner is Phyllis Allen. Congratulations, Phyllis will be receiving a 5.00 Subway gift card.

In honor of Thanksgiving next week we have found some Thanksgiving day wellness ideas:

Use low fat canned cream soup in the traditional green bean casserole.

Use the 1-10 rating system during Thanksgiving dinner. Rate each food on a 1-10 scale - 1, not appealing - 10, WOW, my favorite! Eat only 9's and 10's. Pass up the rest!

Don't skip meals before the big meal that day. You'll be too hungry!! Treat it as a regular day - 3 meals and fruit snacks.

Begin the meal with a salad. You'll eat less during dinner.

After dinner, go for a long walk!

Most importantly enjoy this holiday time with your family and be safe!!

Hot Button Tip of the week: Remember that by now you should have notified your scheduler if you are taking Thanksgiving Day off. All schedulers will be working extremely hard this week and next to try to cover our most needy consumers. Please let them know of any schedule changes so no consumer in need goes without services. Also please remember that generally our pca/pss consumers need more help than many of our homemaking consumers. Keep this in mind when trying to reschedule your people. Your schedulers will usually try to re-staff a pss case before a homemaker case. Obviously we want to be there for someone who needs help bathing or dressing as opposed to someone who needs only homemaking. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about this.

Needs Nook: As always, we still have a great need across the state for HMK and PSS’, especially with the holidays approaching. If you would like extra hours, please let your scheduler know to see if they have anything for you… Don’t forget about our new referral bonus program, it seems to be working and many direct care workers are earning easy holiday cash!!!!
